SARAH: Wow. I’m impressed.

(Pause.)

JAMES: Look . . . These things happen.

SARAH: These things.

JAMES: We both know what it’s like covering a war. It’s pure adrenaline. Bombs bursting in air, death everywhere. We had some amazing sex, you and I.

SARAH: You think this is about sex?

JAMES: Well . . . ?

SARAH: I didn’t just sleep with him.

JAMES: What do you mean?

SARAH: I didn’t just sleep with him, James.

(He’s perplexed. She averts her eyes. He understands.)

JAMES (Stunned, hurt; to himself): Oh my God.

SARAH (Reaches for him): Jamie . . .

JAMES: You were in love with him? (Suddenly emotional)

How could you have fallen in love with him, Sarah?

How could you have done that?!

SARAH: I don’t know!

(Pause.)
